The Susan G Koman Race for the Cure 5K is in June so I started looking up a work out that I could use. I found a really good 8 week training schedule for beginners and then a 6 week training schedule to get me ready for the 5K. Next week starts my training...I am really excited! Here is my schedule for the week!
Week 1 (Feb. 2-8)
Monday - Rest. You will have two rest days per week. If you feel you need more rest days, take them. In these early stages you do not want to do more than your body is ready for.
Tuesday - Walk for 30 minutes at a comfortable pace. Since this is your first workout, take it nice and easy. Walk at a pace that gets your heart rate up and makes you breath heavier than normal, but you should no be out of breath.
Wednesday - Walk for 30 minutes at a comfortable pace. Same workout as yesterday.
Thursday - Walk/Jog for 30 minutes. Walk for 5 minutes and then jog for 30 seconds. Follow that sequence for the entire workout. This is your first taste of running. Do not run for more than 30 seconds at a time. Run at a pace that is fairly comfortable.
Friday - Rest. Let your body recover from its first encounter with running.
Saturday - Walk/Jog for 30 minutes. Walk for 5 minutes and jog for 30 seconds. This is the same workout as Thursday. Keep your pace comfortable.
Sunday - Walk/Jog for 30 minutes. You make a slight increase in the jogging interval here. Walk for 5 minutes and jog for 1 minute. You will start making consistent increases in the time of your running intervals.
I know I can do this! Looking at this daily plan isn't scary to me at all. I really know I can do this!
Hey Chrissy! Maybe you could do this with me....and not get pregnant this time...hehehe!

Lots to do today!
So much to do today while I am home on my 3 snow day in a row. On my "to do list"would be laundry, student teaching weekly self-evaluations (3 weeks...just a little behind), and lesson plans. I am going to try to make tomorrow's as well as all next week's lesson plans so that I don't have to do any planning over the weekend. This weekend is my sister's Pampered Chef party and I am pretty excited!
The only hard thing is is that I have the cutest lil dog in the world and she keeps wanting to lay on my lap. I just don't want to tell her to get up because she keeps giving me these precious lil looks. But eventually I will break down and tell her to get up.
Then...."to do list" here I come!

More than just a snow day!
When you grow up with both parents as teachers a snow day is more than just a day off school, it's almost like a holiday. With all the snow and ice on the ground it makes me wish Kelly and I could have a fire in the fire place like it would be if I was home. If we got the phone call at night mom and I would bug dad about starting a fire in the morning and of course he would cave in. Mom and I would help him carry in the fire wood from the garage. Mom would probably make some cider for us to sip on during the day. Then we would roast marshmallows. I always love roasting marshmallows with my mom; even though I always eat to many and end up with a stomach ache.
I guess today can be my "more than just a snow day" away from home. I am so glad I have my cousin to sit around the apt and watch movies and Friends with all day. I even started some cider of my own in my new crock pot I got for Christmas. Silly I know...but it made me so happy. I know that if Kris and I end up together we will make snow day moments of our own. I am not sure what those memories will be but I am looking forward to them.

Why a blog page?
I suppose the best place to start for your first post on your first blog page would be why. Why did I decide to make a blog?
Well, I think one reason would be me again wanting to be more like my big sister. Even though I am "all grown up" I still have moments when I feel like a 6 year old little girl wanting to be just like my cool big sis. "Chrissy, will you fix my hair...pick out my cloths...and play barbies with me?" I even look at her page and think "wow...she is so awesome...I want to be just like her"
Another reason would be because this is my Student Teaching semester and I know a lot will happen in the next few months that I am going to want to write down. Some good and some not so good. But I will enjoy looking back and see how I grew throughout the experience.
Lastly, I want to run the Susan G. Koman 5K this summer and then maybe even work toward a half marathon. I never thought I could do anything like that until speaking to my friend Jennifer. She is the one woman I look up to the most, other than my mother and sister, and if she can run a half marathon, then I can. She started training shortly after her chemo treatments for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and was truly an inspiration to me. Maybe seeing this goal in print will keep me more accountable.
There it is...the reasons why.
